 Frequently Asked Questions

BODY ART
Q: What is body art and the Australian Body Art Carnivale?
A: Body art is just that - it's art painted on the body. The body becomes the canvas! The Australian Body Art Carnivale weekend is centred around body art, with a face painting competition taking place on Saturday 20 September, and full body art competitions in the three categories of airbrush, sponge and brush, and special effects taking place on Sunday 21 September. The Sunday competition will culminate with a presentation commencing at 6.00pm.
Q: But isn't body art just tattoos and piercing?
A: No. body art can include tattooing but it is so much more. It is about decorating and adorning the human body in as many ways as possible. It's the work of artists who, rather than paint on a flat surface, choose to use a moving, breathing, three-dimensional "canvas" to bring their works of art to life.
Q: How can I enter the Body Art competitions as an artist?
A: Visit the Body Art page of this website for further details, including the Body Art Entry Form/s and Terms and Conditions - as well as FAQs specifically for entrants in the body art competitions.
Similarly, those interested in entering the Wearable Art design competition should visit the Wearable Art page of this website for further details, including the Wearable Art Entry Form/s and Terms and Conditions - as well as FAQs specifically for entrants in this competition.
CHILDREN
Q: Can I bring my kids?
A: Yes. Whilst some of the body art models will have not much on in the way of clothes, the emphasis is on the art - not the bodies. We think that supervised children will very much enjoy watching bodies being painted, but the decision to bring children rests with their parents.
Q: Will there be any tattooing promoted at the event? I do not want to encourage my child to think that they want one.
A: No. Tattooing, other than fun temporary tattoos, is not promoted as part of the Australian Body Art Carnivale.
Q: Will I, or my children, be able to be painted?
A: We will have facepainting tents - for all to try - on both days.
Q: Is the paint safe for children to wear for several hours?
A: It is a condition of the competition that products used comply with Australian manufacturing standards.
